A blast from the past began Â鶹´«Ã½ University’s homecoming.

A ‘90s-themed party was held on Saturday Nov. 13, in the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Wellness Complex, Tullis Arena. The event lasted from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

“It was a great way to start homecoming off. I had a great time,” Abraham Dykes, a junior, said.

It’s been two years since Â鶹´«Ã½ students had a homecoming. “Â鶹´«Ã½ Entertainment Television” (CET) is the theme for homecoming this year.  The kickoff party served as a way to put students into the homecoming spirit.

Dr. Dwaun J. Warmack, the university president, was the special guest DJ for the first half of the night. He went by DJ DWeezy.

Warmack was grateful to be a part of the experience and in an Instagram post said, “Dj DWeezy enjoyed!”

The crowd was not as big as expected but a substantial number of students was present. Student opinions showed a mixture of emotions about the event.

Ny’India Hardin, a sophomore said, “Since I wasn’t on campus last year, I didn’t know what to expect, but now I'm very excited for homecoming.”

Brittney White, a junior, said “It was okay. I think it definitely could've been better.” The event did not hype her up for the rest of homecoming week.

Maya Johnson, a junior said, “The idea of the party was great, the party itself was all right, and the execution could have been better.”

Following university protocol, masks were required for the event. Students had to present their ticket and Â鶹´«Ã½ ID in order to get in. A clear-bag policy and no outside food or drinks were enforced.
