Â鶹´«Ã½ University hosted a human resources roundtable among students and perspective employers.

A panel of representatives from a variety of corporations met with students at the Grace Thomas Kennedy Auditorium on March 20. The objective was to give students perspective on the hiring process and how to effectively communicate in the workplace -- and some does and do nots of social media.

Felita Davis, a representative of Scana Corp., stressed that a person should monitor his or her social media accounts wisely.

“Social media has a huge influence with the millennial generation,” Davis said. “You have to keep in mind that nothing is ever lost when uploaded unto the web.”

Piggybacking on Davis’ advice, Verizon Wireless representative Roxanna Johnson said, “You have to brand yourself from a freshman to your graduation. People will get a chance to observe you and they should see growth be proactive and be engaged.”

DHM representative Rebecca Davis provided further insight: “As an employee, you should understand your job’s off-duty policy and understand you can blemish the agency through the fact you are representing the company and, better yet, yourself.”

Moderator and assistant professor of management Dr. Robin Davis addressed time management.

“After the hiring process is completed, you still have to continue to be professional and consistently show up and be timely,” Johnson said. "During employment, your time management communicates what's important to you."

Heather Turner, another corporate representative, said she learned from being raised in a military household that being early is on time, being on time is late and being late is unacceptable.
